Peak Campus’ Pavilion at North Grounds Receives LEED Silver Certification

Feb 04, 2014

Atlanta, GA – Peak Campus Companies (“Peak Campus”) is pleased to announce that its recently completed apartment project, The Pavilion at North Grounds (“Pavilion”), located in Charlottesville, Virginia adjacent to the University of Virginia (“UVA”), has been awarded Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification.  Peak Campus worked closely with the City of Charlottesville towards this accomplishment, and, in reaching Silver Certification, exceeded what both parties had anticipated.

Among its qualification criteria, Pavilion exceeded the baseline energy model by over 17% with its use of energy efficient fixtures, low flow shower heads and sinks, and landscaping consisting of all native plants.  The project also earned high marks for its integration with mass transit and pedestrian/bicycle pathways which connect to UVA and Barracks Road Shopping Center.  The property provides nearly 100 bike racks in support of alternate transportation modes.  Finally, 79% of the construction waste leaving the site was recycled.  As a testament to its design attributes, the project, which opened in the fall of 2013, has leased well ahead of expectations.  The project is being managed by Peak Campus’ management arm, Peak Campus Management, LLC.

“We are excited to have achieved our first LEED project,” said Dan Fitzpatrick, President at Peak Campus Development.  “We are thrilled that we are able to positively impact the environment as well as promote a healthier lifestyle for Pavilion residents that provides a unique living experience in Charlottesville unlike any other.  We are looking forward to breaking ground on our second phase to the project. ”
